Re-Refined Oil

In our continual effort to provide quality services and products, the Department of General Services, Office of Fleet Administration is pleased to announce the availability of re-refined oil for state vehicles needing oil change services. (SAM 3628)

Five State Garages, one Les Schwab Tire Center, and 78 Jiffy Lube stores now provide re-refined oil. Jiffy Lube and Les Schwab are authorized vendors through the Office of Fleet Administration.

What is re-refined oil?

• Re-refined oil is used motor oil that has undergone extensive
  re-refining to remove all contaminants.
• Re-refining turns dirty oil back into "good-as-new" base oil.
• Re-refined oils undergo a sophisticated cleaning and purification process, similar to crude oil refining.

Benefits of re-refined oil.

• Helps the environment.
• Conserves a non-renewable resource.
• Reduces dependence on imported oil.

What about quality?

• Re-refined oil compares very well with base oils made directly from virgin crude oil.
• American Petroleum Institute (API) Service Symbol/Certification Mark ensures that the finished lubricant has been fully tested and meets the same quality standards as virgin motor oil.
• Finished lubricants are formulated with proven additive systems.
• The result is high quality lubricants that are virtually indistinguishable from those made with virgin base oil.
• Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors approve the use of API-certified re-refined motor oils.

The Office of Fleet Administration strongly encourages state drivers to utilize state garages and authorized vendors offering re-refined motor oil for oil change services.
